Honey Jar Tea + "Winne The Poo Moment" = WikiHow Post

Hey There. - It's been a few days since I've created a post over here, and before I shot off to work, I thought I'd give some props to an internet friend, (@krystlechung on Twitter)  who created a post on honey jar tea. Possibly from my suggesting it?  She does a lot of work over there, while I've only done one post (how to play Urban Golf) on WikiHow, it gained some attention. But She's help me out, and I think suggested it to go on the front page. The Article has had a lot of nice additions to it from the community since I posted the first draft.

 Maybe she's using a Nintendo DS, as the screen shot shows that as a possibility? In any event, she's got my gratitude, as she's been helpful to me in the past. :)

Anyway, I hate to post a short post, and run, but I had a few other things going on the other sites that participate in...   Leave a comment, and I'll tell ya about them.

Off to work I go! Hi Ho Silver Away!!!!!

Twitter Search Widget, Promote [XYZ] on your blog, Just like a Loon.

Howdy! Today, I'm going to show you how you can promote your "Brand" or other keyword or hash tag (like #VFTC) that's being used on Twitter for your own blog. Just like the one that is on the sidebar on Lakewood Loon.  Today, I'm going to pick on, er... I mean use for an example,  a long time Twitter friend, and blogger, TachoBlog. It's interesting to look at the stream from time to time, and see who's talking about what. Who knows, you might find some new friends with like interests as yours. :)

I'm sure there are other widgets out there like this one, but this is an "official" Twitter widget, so it ought be around for a little while.  It's a fairly straightforward widget.  If you've got questions about it, leave a comment, or tweet to me about it. I'm apt to re-post the replies here, if they don't originate from here.

You'll want to go to:
http://twitter.com/about/resources/widgets/widget_search
There are some other widget's available, but the Search Widget is the one that we are going over today.

For our example, I've used:
  • Search Query : #VFTC
  • Title: TachoBlog's View's From The Cab
  • Subject: @Mentions of #VFTC
Click on [TEST SETTINGS]

And Viola!
You"ll get this!

Click on [Finish and Grab the Code] and you'll get some code like what's below to cut and paste into your blogs sidebar, or if you've got a Blogger Blog, you can click on the blogger emblem and it'll add the widget right to your blog.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention, they do have a couple other options for your widget, such as size, color, (you wouldn't want a digital pixel clash on your blog now would you?) and a couple of other variables.  The standard widget is fine, but the scroll bar option is kind of nice, if you saw a tweet that just caught your eye, and you didn't click on it before it passed by...

  version: 2,
  type: 'search',

  interval: 6000,
  title: 'Tachoblog\'s Views From The Cab',
  subject: '@Mentions\'s of #VFTC ',
  width: 250,
  height: 300,
  theme: {
    shell: {
      background: '#8ec1da',
      color: '#ffffff'
    },
    tweets: {
      background: '#ffffff',
      color: '#444444',
      links: '#1985b5'
    }
  },
  features: {

    hashtags: true,
    timestamp: true,
    avatars: true,
    toptweets: true,
    behavior: 'default'
  }
}).render().start();
</script>
__________

And now, you can proudly display your chosen search term on your blog. :)

Giving Props to best-of-lakewood.com a LoonTube Site.

Hey there. I've been busy most of Saturday messing around with videos for the
best-of-lakewood.com site. - I had the pleasure of chatting it up with John and Frank over at Two Dads Diner. - A great place to rest your seat and get a great bite to eat.  So... I'm cheating a little, and giving the other site a few props.

Cleveland Metromix Explains them well. :)

Edison Receives His patent for Phonograph 133 years ago Today

On February 19th, 1878 Edison received U.S. Patent 0,200,521 (his 117th US patent) for his 'Phonograph or Speaking Machine.'  And thus the age of Multi-Media was starting to give birth. Later Edison would go on to create Moving Pictures, or Movies. These devices were much more mechanical then electronic in nature, but the sheer simplicity of them when looking back at how they were created always amazes me.

The Phonograph gave birth to the platter records, and then the CD, and now MP3's. (I guess I won't mention that fork in the road called Magnetic Tapes, but it's worth the mention, not to mention it.)  It's kind of funny how the kids are finding that their 128 bit iTunes music sucks in depth of sound compared to their dad's (or granddad's) old vinyl records, or CD even.  Vinyl isn't quite dead, but it's heyday is over. It's alive today in more of a niche market these days. Something that I doubt will happen with VCR's. There are companies such as Musicol Recording that are still pressing records.

Oh, I almost forgot.. Below is a link from 1906 promoting a record player..

I'm wondering, do any of you still have any record players laying around that are in use?

What was the first record that you ever bought?

The Great White Grape Ape Ain't doing so great..

This '98 Freightliner and I have traveled over 130,000 miles together over the past two years.  Yesterday, the #3 injector stopped injecting. Could be a wire, could be the injector. After a few hours in a shop in Canton, the powers that be decided they were done spending money on the truck. Work is slow, and we've got a couple of other newer trucks without drivers.  I'm really going to miss that truck. It has a Cummings N14 with a 10 speed tranny.  The other trucks. Have gutless Detroit's in them, and can't pass a kernel of popcorn going up a hill.  I won't miss the sound of the wind whistling in my ears as I go down the road, or the leaky windscreen. I'll be sitting quietly at the bottom of the hills, in the right lane watching the other big trucks defy gravity.  *sigh*

Goodbye Great White Grape Ape, when you ran, you ran great....

It was impossible to get a conversation going, everybody was talking too much.

Announcing The "Best-Of-Lakewood.Com" Video Blog

Howdy, Howdy! - I'd like to announce another site that I'm putting up, Featuring Lakewood, Ohio.  My intentions are to create at least 2 videos a month, featuring something cool about Lakewood, Ohio.  I expect that most of the videos will be created by my wife and I. We'll be checking things out around  town, and talking about them a bit. An interview or two. And what I'd think would be REALLY cool, is IF someone has their own blog post or video submission, that would be really cool too. I'd love to have some guest bloggers on that site.

LoonView: Is Lakewood's Coolness in question?

Actually, I don't think that it is, I think that Mr McCleskey's question is if the Dallas Ft Worth area has any cool suburbs. To bad for them. :(

 They might but I think that we've got the town that's got the 'burbs down. Right here, in Lakewood. :)
I left a comment with a link to the Daily Snap...  :o

Loon with a View - Google Goggles. Ok, now I'm Jealous

Google Goggles just sorta puts that whole QR Code thing to shame. But it's a slightly different application.  If you have an Android (Yea Android!) and the new iPhone 4 you can take shot of historical or well known building or landmark and send it to Google Goggles, and if it finds it, it will give you the low down on the item. You can also use it to translate a menu or a logo.  Check out the link and watch the video for more information.

Time's running out, and how to catch it..

Well, ok, I'm not going to be able to tell you how to catch time. Really, I'm not that good.  In any case, after the previous post, that was on a serious side of things, I'd like to loosing things up on this one.

Are any of you are up to the frosty fenders challenge?  Yea, I should have named it Frosty Fenders 2011, but I started it in 2010, and really didn't know how I was going to try to pull it off, and get people involved with it. Still have some work cut out with getting people to get interested in things. - I know if  there's a will, there's a way.

Human / Sex Trafficking, and increased Awareness in Ohio....

Counties that comply with the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA)

Human trafficking is the illegal trade in human beings for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation or forced labor, a modern-day form of slavery. (Wiki Link)

Over on the Right hand side of the blog, I was friended by an another Blogger Blogger. (Did I say that right?) So, I went to check out her blog. Her Latest post was about the Daughter Project, and a woman Amy Seifert, that is wearing a dress for 6 months. The same dress. (Yes, I do think it's getting washed!) Her reasons are to increase awareness about the human trafficking problem.  And I think that it's working. :)

"Toledo rated fourth for youth-sex trade in U.S.; city tops per capita for arrests, rescues of children" - The Toledo Blade

Congratulations to Amy,  as she just found out she's pregnant.  I'd like to give props to her, for her 6 month dress, (I'd imagine that it'll get auctioned off to raise funds?)  and may her interviews with big media be deemed a success, as she increases awareness.

This subject is something that I've not given much daily thought about. BUT, There's three women that I call daughters, and three little girls that I call grand-daughters.... It the subject does resonate with me.

It also causes me to wonder if my other Blog, "Pimping The Penguin" isn't so funny to others... ?

A Loon With a View 2-11-11, Just a little Crazy? Maybe A Lot!

Well, it would seem that my Day off yesterday was time well spent, but I still managed to munge up a few things.  But, the point is that I tried, and did accomplish something.

What I did right:
  1. I got this setup better.
  2. I helped someone.
  3. I created a page to offer handwritten postcards from Cleveland, Ohio.  But I don't  know if it's working as of yet, or how it appears to the buyer, so I'm a bit nervous about that.
  4. I fed the cat. I emptied the litter. And fed her again, and litter again. :)
  5. I learned a bit more about FeedBurner, and Blogger.
  6. I wrote a post on my old blog that more then 1 person found interesting.
  7. I replied to emails, a couple of them.
  8. I answered the phone when someone important called.
  9. I had fun.
  10. I created Favicon's for my two blogs. And blogged about it. :)

Things that I might not have been so good at:
  1. I got this site up, but not everything on my list is done.
  2. I posted a post on an old blog that posted everywhere else and forgot that it did causing some confusion and duplications.
  3. I helped someone mess up part of her blog, but didn't mean to. :(
  4. Working. It was slow, so I didn't work today. $0.00 Sigh...
  5. I forgot what the other things were that I did wrong, and so I won't write the another five. Thus, I only did half as bad as I did good. Right? Right!
In any case, everyone have a great day.  I look forward to connecting with more local Lakewoodites online or off...

I love Google Maps, and it's little extras.

I don't know about you. But I remember MapQuest, and Yahoo Maps, and how badly they sucked.  They really did. Then came Google Maps. Simple and to the point. And they just keep getting better.  If you're looking for something in your area, or planning a trip, Google Maps is the way to go.  They behave a little different, then some of the other online mapping sites, but being able to move the route around, and find reviews for places you're likely to stop at is most helpful.
You can also pick Walking, Bus, or Car as a mode for getting somewhere, and the travel time to expect.

Daily Random Shot 036-11, Two Dads Diner makes it Yummy!

One of my favorite places to go grab a quick bite to eat with my wife is Two Dads Diner. - The food is good, the price is right, and the help is friendly.  I've never had an issue with their food or service.  But then, I might be having to much fun to notice any issues. - That should say something, eh?  They've got a breakfast special from 7-9 am where you can grab a meal for $2.99. Sorta makes the Fast Food places pale when you get right down to it.

Daily Random Shot 035-11, Old Shed - Maple Heights, OH.

While I was unloading this morning in Maple Heights, OH.I saw a shot that I wanted to take.  I don't always get a chance to get them. Today I did. :)   I really like these old buildings. To be more exact, I like the old brick structures around the Cleveland, Ohio area. I grew up out west.  Very few 100 year old brick buildings out there...

People's personalities, like buildings, have various facades, some pleasant to view, some not.

Well it Seems that uploading it the way that I did from a Tweet, and from the phone didn't have quite the results that I had hoped. -  That's alright. I now know what not to do. - Also... What a cruddy shot. LOL...  Oh well.

Daily Random Shot 032-11, Emerald Necklace Marina

This is simply another picture that I took this past weekend at the Emerald Neck Marina.  I've not been in the building... maybe we'll have to remedy that one day soon. :)

As I've mentioned in the previous post,  another blogger already has a good local photo niche blog going on.  I had thought that I could do something similar to theirs. But besides lacking their talent, and eye. I don't think that that I can. Also for me to consider,  I might not be in town when it's light outside. So, I'm going to try and get one done each day while I'm on the road,  if I don't have a local shot handy. Granted, I'm still going to be a Lakewood-iean (?) but I'll be doing what I can do, with what I have. :)

Besides, I need to try and exercise some of the philosophic wisdom that I've heard that says we need to be happy with what we DO HAVE. Rather then un-happy with what we don't.

Happiness is not having what you want. It is wanting what you have.

Oh Snap! - lakewood daily snap: tag tuesday

Looks like someone has got a really GOOD Daily Picture blog for Lakewood. - AND they're taking  GREAT pictures.  -  While I don't want to compete with them, and I doubt that I could at their level,  I'll keep trying to do my Daily Random Picture, as the pic that I post might not be from Lakewood, but wherever I am out and about.  Like the next one that I'll post. :)

You'll have to check out the link below to view their blog and pictures.  :)
